SIA has recently published a revised ‘Introduction to Learning Towards Licence-Linked Qualifications’ document. We sent you information about this on 15 January, and both the revised document and SIA’s guide to the changes can be found on our web site: http://trident.laser-awards.org.uk/revised-sia-requirements/
Please note that SIA has just EXTENDED the deadline for implementing the changes. These must now be in place by 1 May at the latest.
Many of the changes are wording changes to make clearer the requirements as they previously stood, or minor changes to requirements, however there are two key changes, as follows:
- There will be an increase from 5 to 6 days face to face delivery for the door supervision course if you are not using distance learning materials (NB minimum 45 hours has not changed, just the number of days over which the 45 hours must be delivered).
- Test papers must be stored in a secure safe (not a filing cabinet) and you must have a written policy on the safe transportation of test papers to all delivery sites.
To be clear, in relation to the first point, the number of hours has not changed, but SIA has recognised that 45 hours cannot be delivered in five days because there is a maximum number of hours per day of 8 (8½ for one day). Also, if you are approved to deliver distance learning, the number of days of your face to face training will not change (it will remain at 4).
We are currently developing an interactive online distance learning resource for centres who want to offer distance learning, to provide to their learners. This will mean that the course can be delivered in 4 face to face training days rather than 6. More information on this will follow shortly.
If you have any questions or are unclear about any of these changes, please contact your quality reviewer, or our Quality Manager Julie Corrie
