Becoming an Approved Centre
Trident Awards (Laser Learning Awards) welcomes new centres who can meet and maintain our high standards.
If you are interested in becoming approved by Trident Awards, it is essential that you read all the following information before making your application to ensure that you can meet all the requirements.
Trident Awards takes quality assurance and compliance very seriously and works closely with the SIA, Ofqual, and other awarding organisations to minimise malpractice in the industry. The application process is therefore rigorous, and you will be required to demonstrate that you have all the necessary resources, including physical resources, appropriate expertise, and policies, to meet our requirements which includes the requirements set by the SIA. Please read the Trident Awards Qualification Specifications which can be found here for all the qualifications you are interested in offering to be sure you fully understand the requirements for each qualification.
Incomplete/incorrect/inadequate applications will hold up the approvals process, may incur an additional support fee, and/or may result in your application not being approved.
Trident Awards will not normally approve a Centre which only has one named contact; we require at least two named individuals, one of whom holds the role of internal quality assurer.
No refund of the application fee can be given where a Centre fails to meet the requirements, or is not approved for any other reason.
Trident Awards is the brand name used by Laser Learning Awards for its work in the security industry. Centres successful in their application will become approved Centres of Laser Learning Awards, permitted to offer specific named qualifications in the security industry. You may also apply for approval to deliver other qualifications under the Laser Learning Awards brand at the same time if you wish (including APLH, and Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events, etc), or these may be added at a later date.
Trident Awards takes a zero tolerance approach to malpractice, and approval may be withdrawn at any time in accordance with our Centre Recognition Agreement.
Approval may also be withdrawn after a period of inactivity of three months.
If your initial application is accepted, you will then be invoiced for the appropriate centre application fee. The current fees can be found here. Acceptance of your initial application at this stage does not guarantee approval, and you must make sure you have all the necessary resources and policies in place. Once the application fee has been received and cleared, your application will progress and you will be required to complete and submit a number of forms which will be sent to you by our approvals co-ordinator.
A visit will be arranged once/if all the above have been satisfactorily received. At this visit you will need to be able to demonstrate the availability of all resources including the policies referred to in the application form. After this visit, a final decision will be taken about the suitability of your Centre to become approved for the qualifications you have requested, and you will receive a report which may include Conditions (which must be completed before approval will be granted) and/or Recommendations (which are strongly advised).
To be a recognised centre approved to offer security industry qualifications you will need to understand and comply with Ofqual and SIA regulatory requirements. We will be happy to discuss these with you and if appropriate support your Centre to ensure you are able to comply. To start the process please complete in full, and submit, the enquiry form below.
We reserve the right to turn down any initial enquiry before a full application is made. No reason need be given.
